A Cork Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point
Bere Island
Bere Island is a County Cork Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point. It is a small Island, just 11km long and 5km wide. Bere Island was once a base for the British Navy and Army as is evident by the many observation buildings along its shoreline. There is also Ardnakinna lighthouse, Martello Towers and the Holy Year Cross. The Gallaun Stone marks the centre of the island both width and longways.
There are wonderful views, bird watching opportunities and Nature Walks to enjoy.
Get a ferry to Bere Island from either Castletown Bearhaven (to the West End of Bere Island) or Pontoon Pier (landing near Rerrin Village).
Note: There are no gas stations on the Island so be sure to fill your tank before leaving the mainland.
