A Donegal Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point
A ferry point for Inishfree, Arranmore & Rutland Islands

Burtonport Harbour

Burtonport is a small fishing village on the west coast of Donegal and is the ferry port for Inishfree Island (Inis Fraoigh), Aranmore Island (Árainn Móir) and Rutland Island (Inis Mhic a Doirín).

The name is, like many places in Ireland, is taken from a local landowner in earlier times. In this case the landowner, Burton Conyngham, built houses on nearby Rutland Island and had a small pier built for himself from which to sail to the island. This became known as “Burton’s Port”.
