A Donegal Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point
Gola Island – Gabhla
Gola Island, or Gabhla in Irish, is a small 500 acre island, 2km from the mainland at Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland. The island was unpopulated since the 1960’s until about 1996 when some people started to return.
The island’s peaceful ambiance makes it perfect for walking, bird-watching and camping. It’s cliffs are also popular challenges for rock climbers.
The island is served by a ferry from Bunbeg Harbour. The crossing takes 8 minutes but please check locally as it only runs daily during the summer months generally.
